    Marathon Article Writing
    Friday, May 26, 2006

I just had a nightmarish marathon writing session. I was due to write an article for my column last night, but I couldn't think of a topic that I wanted to write on. I've been wanting to write about the Standard Model for quite some time, but where to start? Well, after several frustrating hours of writer's block, I decided to dive into the Standard Model afterall. Unfortunately, there is no way to explain it in 400 hundred words or less. After several more hours, I cut a huge essay into 5 articles, but they still only scratched the surface. Luckily for me, this means I've worked ahead to the end of June, but I'm supposed to be finessing a new book proposal, not dallying with the column. Plus I still have to attend to my class! Argh.

My godson Aric the other day, paid me a sort of complement. He said "I don't want to make money, I want to write!" This was his argument for not doing better at math, but it made me feel like a poor role model! It was sort of flattering though; it's nice that he sees writing as a positive thing.

    Relativity
    Tuesday, May 16, 2006

We're having tea with Einstein this week, and discussing the effects of relativity. In other news, I thought I had botched my audition, I was so nervous and hadn't anticipated being so - I never had jitters when I was doing acting in highschool. I had rattled through my monologue, proving that I could at least memorize Shakespeare, but there was no feeling in it. I was shocked to find out that I did get a callback afterall. It's not for any lead part, but that's not what I wanted. The whole point of the exercise was to get out of my skull for a bit and try something new - and to connect with actors so I could learn how to write for them.

Transformers: more than meets the eye
    Thursday, May 04, 2006

Okay, I had to use that cheesy line - I'm a child of the eighties afterall. My May 12th article is about transformers (the electrical device not the robots). I decided to do some structural changes to the site. I finally eliminated my resume; it was horribly out of date and I realized that I don't actually need it anymore. The last time I needed it was in the year 2000 (that still sounds futuristic).

I did however, need to create an acting resume for the audition I'm going to for the Southwest Shakespeare Company. I don't have any acting credits beyond highschool (half my life ago!), but I still filled up half a page. I also spent about an hour on wikipedia so I could figure out exactly what color my eyes are. My driver's license says hazel but that's wrong - I just picked a color at the time I had to fill out the paper work (for some reason, having the wrong eye color on file with the government never bothered me, but it would if I got it wrong on this acting resume). After much deliberation, I narrowed it down to grey or blue-green. I finally settled on blue-green but I really can't tell the difference between the two. Mainly I picked the latter because genetically, it is extremely rare - and I like bein' special.

The other major change to the site is that I added separate pages for the column and my books.
