I just finished watching the film "Naked Lunch". Wow. Netflix is going to be the end of me - I'm finally seeing all the movies I was too young to see when they came out, the ones I was desperate to see at the time. Naked Lunch has some, well, unusual themes. The one I identified with was how writing sort of happens to you - it takes you, often at inopportune moments. I loved how Burroughs described it as "filing reports". It's so appropriate! It's a duty, a burden, and an illness. It takes and it gives, it frees and and it enslaves. And it is a full-fledged addiction.

    Physics Column
    Tuesday, February 07, 2006

I've just been offered a position writing a column on physics for Suite101.com. This is a huge big deal for me, it finally makes me a working writer! This actually might be a viable career.

In a way, writing the column is sort of a dream job. When I was in elementary school I wrote a column on science for the school newsletter. I don't think anyone read it but it was a lot of fun at the time (and I felt important).

Anyway, I'm very excited! Also, still no rain!
